A whirlwind of energy: Awich 台風のようなエネルギーがある歌手：Awich
I first found out about this Okinawan singer via the Instagram account of a too-cool-for-school type Nagasaki local I follow. I was shocked to see she was playing the only club in town, “Beta”, in September when I’d written it off as somewhere no-one cool looking would ever play. Unfortunately, I can’t go due to the COVID-19 situation. The western influence on both her style and music is evident from the get-go, and natural considering she lived in America for such a long time, producing an artist that has hit potential on both sides of the globe.
カッコよ過ぎる長崎人のインスタグラムアカウントで初めてこの沖縄出身のシンガーを知った。僕はカッコイイアーティストが全く演奏しそうにない長崎市の一つだけのクラブ「Beta」という場所で9月に彼女がライブをする予定があることにビックリした。残念ながら、新型コロナヴィラスの爆発のような広がりのせいで行けない。長い間にアメリカに住んでいたから彼女の曲に洋楽の影響があるのは当たり前で地球のどっち側でもヒットになる可能性があると思う。
Her music dips into both rap and soulful R&B, the latter of which I prefer. In particular, the rolling beat and rhythmic singing of “Goodbye” or “Bad Bad”, the last two songs of her “Partition” album. I can’t help myself but move to these tunes, they’re so catchy and danceable. The bass heavy end of her music, for example “Gila Gila” is also just as rhythmic and would be great for a gym workout or something like that.
ソウルフルなR&Bとラップが特徴だが僕は彼女のR&Bの方が好きだ。特に僕のお気に入りの曲は体を揺さぶるビートと リズムのある歌い方が際立つ「Partition 」というのアルバムの最後の二曲、「Good Bye」と「Bad Bad」。踊りやすくて凄くキャッチーな曲に僕は動かずにはいられない。「Gila Gila」のような重いベースのある曲もあって「Good Bye」と「Bad Bad」と同じぐらいのいいリズム感じでトレーニングしながら聴くのにピッタリ。
She’s been through her share of difficulty in life, with her husband being murdered when they lived in the states, and you can hear so much of her emotion towards this in her music. She really is a mastermind of producing energetic R&B, hip hop and rap and I look forward to seeing her live one day.
